You may have notice a mixture of subtle-not-so-subtle changes going on here. The design changed, then the Facebook Page changed, then… well I don’t remember much after that, but there were other things going on. And now, lastly and finally, the website URL changed – again.
If you’ve been with me from the very beginning, so… about 7 years ago, then you might remember Windmills and Wooden Shoes, a title I created based on my newly inherited Dutch heritage. I got really tired of typing ‘www.windmillsandwoodenshoes.wordpress.com’ so I tossed it and replaced it with Comedic Grievances, a title I’ve held onto for the last 4 years, inspired by a Jerry Seinfeld joke and a witty article written by Zooey Deschanel in response to a grumpy critic.
While I’ve enjoyed my time writing for Comedic Grievances, I’ve gradually felt the title to be limiting. Even my “About Me” page was rule-bound as I proudly proclaimed I’d never write anything that would make my readers cry, because I prefer laughter to tears. Ironically, many readers have written me or mentioned that such-and-such post made them cry. This has continually baffled me as I certainly never intended to write tear-producing posts, but there it is. I do and will always prefer to laugh than cry (I will FIGHT you to watch a comedy over a drama every. single. time.), but I think with the variety of seasons my life has gone through since creating Comedic Grievances, I’ve developed a desire to write about aspects of my life that aren’t all that humorous. For example, after I had Elliott, postpartum-anxiety (different from postpartum-depression) waged war against my mind and body. I mean I came home from the hospital and bam. Down and out. It’s not a cheery topic, but it’s important, and one that I’d love to write about soon in case one of the 900,000 (and that’s just in the U.S.) moms in her own war against PPA needs to know she’s not alone, and that she will get better.
I mulled over about less limiting titles for several months but couldn’t come up with anything that didn’t sound kitschy or totally lame. I also didn’t want a title that was equally limiting, like something that made me a mom[my] blogger or a travel blogger or a craft blogger (LOL).
I went with my name. Because I’m a Holly Kooi blogger, and I’m the only one of me there is according to domain availability.
What this means:
- If you’ve subscribed to Comedic Grievances, now’s the time to switch over to the new URL. I’ll leave CG up for 6 months before deleting it.
- The website design may continue to change here and there but not so drastically that it’ll hurt your eyes or send you into shock.
- Things will still stay comedic around here with the addition of other topics like faith, anxiety, and the time my toddler threw a huge Fuji apple at my face.
- Politics will never be a topic I write about because I’m not interested in people losing their minds in the comments section.
A HUUUUGE kiss-emoji thanks to my husband who did all the URLy-switchy-over stuff for me. And of course a big thanks to you, the readers, who keep reading and don’t yell at me when I mess up your subscription situation. If there’s a topic you’d like to see written about on here – as long as it has absolutely zilch to do with politics and movies with animals in them – let me know. I may have something for you.
